WELCOME TO SUMMER!

Well, it’s here again-that glorious season of heat, humidity, love bugs, and more heat.  Just remember how lucky we all are to shoot 365 days a year, when there are others that miss out during the winter due to that yucky frozen white stuff.  Now, if we could arrange for some of that frozen stuff in July, it might be a nice change!  Since it might be a few days before we see a dip in the mercury, remember the golden rules:

BE SAFE   BE SMART IN THE HEAT    STAY HYDRATED

EVERYONE WORKS, EVERYONE PLAYS LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER

Over the summer, we will try to make your shooting experience as comfortable as possible.  Starting in June, we will be cutting the length of the match down to five stages.  Expect them to be fast with limited resets and not as much movement.  You can still expect them to be FUN!

This month, for your shooting pleasure: REGULATORS GO TO THE MOVIES.  Hope to see you there!

NEWS FROM THE FRONT

Our own La Gata Loca says “HI” from somewhere in the Middle East.  She is doing well, and misses all her cowboy pards very much.  La Gata told me her little group got to go out to the “big range” (can you say desert?) and shoot a grenade launcher.  She reports it was a little cumbersome to handle gunfighter style, and the caliber is a little high for cowboy shooting, but it was fun none the less.  Their bus got lost in a sand storm and they saw wild camels.  Yep, join the navy and see the world! You can e-mail her at laura@geekcentralinc.com.

Also, she reports that her unit has a very, very small library.  They could put donations of paperback books and DVD’s to good use.  When they come back stateside next fall, they would be used by their replacements, or to replenish other units.  If you have books cluttering up your closet, or DVD’s on your shelf collecting dust, contact Night Train Kate, who will arrange the freight.  Just a small way to help out our brothers and sisters in arms, until they are safely back in ours.

COWBOY CLASS & R/O CLASS

The monthly cowboy class is the first Saturday of the month.  This is a great opportunity to introduce someone to the sport, or to get a “refresher”.  If you are interested, or know someone who would like to try out cowboy action shooting, please call Turkey Creek Red at (321)728-7928 or Utah at (321)951-1223.

FROM THE PONY EXPRESS

Safety is always first and foremost.  Please remember Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club is a private range, and we have a lot of people shooting in areas you can’t always see.  Please do not handle your guns unnecessarily at your vehicle when transferring them to gun carts.  Be mindful of your muzzle direction.  Resist the urge to show off that new fancy rig until you are inside the action area in a designated safe area.  Observe the 10mph speed limit.  Please park in the open lot across from the registration area and NOT along the bullseye line.  Additional parking is available in the pistol practice area just south of Bay 1.  Parking inside the action area is limited to handicapped vehicles without trailers and Indian River Regulator Cowboy Council members.  Your support and consideration in these areas will make us better neighbors with out other shooting disciplines.

If you are a member, of PMRPC please refer to your monthly news letter regarding the new rules for use of the action area, or see Turkey Creek Red

Remember, at the Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club, all juniors shoot free of charge.  This is an excellent way to get more young people involved in our wonderful sport.  If you know someone who might be interested in cowboy action shooting, please encourage them to attend the cowboy class and come join the fun!

Got comments? Suggestions? Criticisms? Got an idea for a stage?  WE WANT YOUR INPUT!  This is YOUR shoot and we feel this truly is an interactive sport!  You can write us, call us at (321) 728-7928 or e-mail us at Ccoll28198@aol.com  – even if you want to remain a “Ghost Writer”.  We members of the press know how to protect our sources.  Get involved!
