ALLIGATOR CAMP

Night Train Kate and Turkey Creek Red are back from their vacation.  We would like to give a tip of the Stetson to Utah, Evil Ed, Lawdog, and El Concho for looking after the ranch, and putting on a great shoot while they were gone.  Mule Camp was EXCELLENT, and Florida was one of the three most represented states at the match.  Many, many congrats to the match and costume contest winners.  If you didn’t get to shoot enough at this match, you weren’t trying.  There was an Iron Cowboy match (the warm up match, all side matches, the Black Powder Match, and the Main Match) that attracted 11 stout hearts.  The Black Powder Match was a real treat.  For those of you soot lords out there, Hodgdon’s PAID YOUR ENTRY for the Black Powder Match if you were registered in a black powder category for the main match.  What could be better? Free shooting!  The main match was fast, challenging, and a whole lot of FUN.  This month, we are bringing some of our favorite stages to Malabar for those of you who didn’t get to go.  We would like to extend an open invitation to everyone to attend next year.  The new format with limited entrants, smaller posses, and the split shooting schedule really made a difference.  You won’t be disappointed.  There are also some rumors that Turkey Creek Red may auction his ponytail for the SASS Scholarship Fund and Locks of Love!

Summer is upon us.  We will be cutting the match back to 5 stages June through September.  Please be safe in the heat, and we will try to make your summer as comfortable as we can.

Remember: Orlando Western Three Gun will be having their second annual match June 16th and 17th.  Don’t be fooled – anyone can shoot this match.  For those of you unfamiliar with Western Three Gun, it’s based on cowboy action shooting as we know it, just with a little more action thrown in.  You do not have to be a Western Three Gun member unless you wish to shoot professional class.  The Jailer and his band of merry cowboys have worked hard to put on another spectacular event.  There will be some fast shooting and amazing prizes.  Come out and support our sister sport.  See Kate for registration forms.

COWBOY CLASS & R/O CLASS

We will be offering a Level I R/O class Sunday, June 24, 2007.  If you are interested in attending the class, please call Turkey Creek Red so we can have appropriate teaching materials ready.  The class will begin at 9:00 am in the action area at Port Malabar.  You will need to pack a lunch.  The cost is $10.

The introductory cowboy class is the first Saturday of the month.  This is a great opportunity to introduce someone to the sport, or to get a “refresher”.  If you are interested, or know someone who would like to try out cowboy action shooting, please call Turkey Creek Red at (321)728-7928.

Utah is offering an intermediate to advanced cowboy class the first Saturday of the month, at 1:00pm.  This is for those of you pistoleros that want to hone your skills, develop a little more speed, and learn some of the tips of the trade.  If you are interested, please call Utah at (321)951-1223.

FROM THE PONY EXPRESS

Safety is always first and foremost.  Please remember Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club is a private range, and we have a lot of people shooting in areas you can’t always see.  Please do not handle your guns unnecessarily at your vehicle when transferring them to gun carts.  Be mindful of your muzzle direction.  Resist the urge to show off that new fancy rig until you are inside the action area in a designated safe area.  Observe the 10mph speed limit.  Please park in the open lot across from the registration area and NOT along the bullseye line.  Additional parking is available in the pistol practice area just south of Bay 1.  Parking inside the action area is limited to handicapped vehicles without trailers and Indian River Regulator Cowboy Council members.  Your support and consideration in these areas will make us better neighbors with out other shooting disciplines.

If you are a member, of PMRPC please refer to your monthly news letter regarding the new rules for use of the action area, or see Turkey Creek Red

Remember, at the Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club, all juniors shoot free of charge.  This is an excellent way to get more young people involved in our wonderful sport.  If you know someone who might be interested in cowboy action shooting, please encourage them to attend the cowboy class and come join the fun!

Got comments? Suggestions? Criticisms? Got an idea for a stage?  WE WANT YOUR INPUT!  This is YOUR shoot and we feel this truly is an interactive sport!  You can write us, call us at (321) 728-7928 or e-mail us at Ccoll28198@aol.com  – even if you want to remain a “Ghost Writer”.  We members of the press know how to protect our sources.  Get involved!
